VR 360° Arctic Permafrost Tour
Explore Alaska’s permafrost landscapes through an immersive VR 360° experience developed as part of the NSF-funded Thaw Below Zero project with collaborator, Jason Cervenac, at the Ohio State University Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center. This virtual tour brings users directly into the field, showcasing permafrost terrain, research sites, and on-the-ground scientific work that is helping us understand how ice-rich permafrost is changing in a warming Arctic.
Building on this effort, we will be developing a new VR 360° experience during the upcoming COAST-X expedition, capturing coastal and nearshore environments along Alaska’s western and northern coasts. This next tour will expand our virtual field program and provide an immersive window into Arctic coastal science, community-connected research, and the Great White Yonder.
